  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP) – Protocol used to transfer files from one computer to another over the internet. One end has to have an FTP Server and the other end must have an FTP Client. You will need an FTP Client as the server is already in place. You can find free clients by doing a Google search.

  • Top Level Domain (TLD) – A TLD is primary domain name for example “vypertech.net” is a TLD.

  • Sub Domain – A Sub Domain puts something in front of the TLD for example “forums.vypertech.net”.

  • SQL Database – A database stores large amounts of transaction data in an organized format that a program can read and write too.

  • Gigabyte (GB) – Gigabyte is 1000 megabytes of data and is the term used to measure storage space.

  • Hyper Text Mark-up Language (HTML) – HTML is used in some way for all web sites and is the programming language used to create and display webpages.

  • PHP – PHP is a scripting language used on webpages that allows the web developers to do more advanced activities or provide a complete web based program.

  • Java – is another scripting language used on webpages that allows the web developers to do more advanced activities or provide a complete web based program

  • Domain Name Server (DNS) – Domain Name Servers are servers that take your domain and translate it into an Internet Protocol Address (IP address). IP addresses are 4 sets of 1-3 numbers separated by a period for example “127.0.0.1”.

  • Bandwidth – Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be sent or recieved from your server.

  • Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) – SSL is an encryption technology used to secure the data that is sent between the browser and the web server.
